Rapid Raft Foundation & Flooring – Great Horkesley, Essex

Mr McKenzie came to Fallon & Co Piling through our sister company, Fallon & Co Builders. He had engaged Fallon & Co Builders for a previous construction job, and was so pleased with the results and the service he’d received that he came to us asking if we could help out with the piling for his latest project.

Knowles Barn is located in Great Horkesley, a picturesque and charming village located a few miles north of Colchester, Essex. The plan for Mr McKenzie was to create a new cart lodge and shed base, and Fallon & Co Piling would be in charge of the first crucial step of laying the foundations and piling.

The Job‍

The team was tasked with installing a rapid-raft foundation and a flooring system for the new cart lodge and shed base. For this job we used hollow-stem piling, a slightly different and trickier procedure than more standard types of piling. This is generally done when ground conditions are such that traditional piles are not practicable; it involves injecting grout through a hollow auger.‍

Even with this factor, the job was very quick and efficient, much more so than many other jobs that Fallon & Co has taken on. However, this underpins one of our core philosophies at Fallon & Co, which is that no job is too small. We’re happy to help out our clients with all their piling needs, whether they’re grand and ambitious or small and practical, and it was a pleasure to contribute to Mr McKenzie’s plans for Knowles Barn.
